Coinbase brings tokenized stocks to Base through Alpaca Securities

Wall Street is officially migrating to the blockchain. Coinbase's layer-2 network, Base, just added tokenized versions of major U.S. equities, allowing users to hold traditional stocks directly in their crypto wallets. These aren't just synthetic trackers; the tokens represent actual shares held by Alpaca Securities, a FINRA-regulated broker-dealer. By bridging these assets, investors can now use their equity holdings as collateral in decentralized lending protocols or trade them 24/7 without waiting for the New York Stock Exchange to open. It's a direct challenge to the siloed nature of traditional brokerage accounts. While regulators keep a close watch on cross-chain securities, the technical infrastructure is already live. You won't need a separate login to flip between Ethereum-based tokens and Apple shares anymore. The friction between legacy finance and on-chain liquidity is thinning out fast. If your portfolio lives on Base, will you bother keeping a separate E-Trade account?
