After eleven years at the center of the crypto derivatives market, BitMEX announced it will permanently shutter its operations on Sept. 23, 2026. Owner HDR Global Trading Limited made the executive call to wind down the exchange, marking the end of an era for a platform that once dominated global trading volumes. BitMEX famously introduced the XBT-USD perpetual contract in 2016, a product that changed how retail traders used leverage.
