New Ethereum proposal aims to kill issuance as staking hits $112 billion

Ethereum’s supply dynamics might be headed for a total overhaul if a new draft proposal gains traction. The plan, dubbed EIP-8361, targets the network’s staking ratio with a mechanism that burns a larger slice of validator rewards as more users lock up their tokens. If the total value of staked ETH climbs to the $112 billion mark, the issuance rate would effectively drop to zero. It's a move designed to prevent the staking pool from bloating to a point where it dilutes the value for non-stakers. Ethereum developers have long tinkered with the balance between security and scarcity, but this specific threshold puts a hard ceiling on how much the network is willing to pay for its own protection. The proposal forces a choice between yield and supply preservation. Will validators accept smaller paychecks to keep the total ETH supply from expanding?
