Ethereum and Base split on wallet standards after failed negotiations

The dream of a unified transaction standard for Ethereum and its biggest layer-2 just hit a brick wall. After months of back-and-forth, developers couldn't agree on a single path forward, leading to a messy technical divorce. Ethereum is now pushing ahead with EIP-8141, while the Coinbase-backed Base network has thrown its weight behind EIP-8130. It's a frustrating outcome for developers who wanted a frictionless experience across both ecosystems. Instead of a shared language, wallets and decentralized apps now face a fragmented future where they'll have to juggle two different systems simultaneously. This split complicates the user experience for anyone moving assets between the mainnet and the popular scaling solution. If these two giants can't align on basic wallet infrastructure, what does that say about the industry's push for seamless interoperability? We're about to find out if other layer-2s pick a side or try to bridge the growing gap.
